Taverna Ilias - next door
Our neighbours, Ilias and his very kind family, run an authentic, uncomplicated and reasonable taverna offering very traditional Cretan cuisine. Almost everything they offer is farmed by themselves and cooked freshly. Locals from the area love to go there, so especially on the weekends Ilias and his family are very busy. 😍
The Salty Goat - and other bars at the beach
The SALTY GOAT team are locals from Rethymno and have put much energy and effort into this amazing and atmospheric beach bar. It’s beautifully done with many different places to relax, hammocks, cabanas, sunbeds, chairs, loungers, all made from natural materials. 🌴 The chilled vibes are accompanied by relaxed tunes. 🎶😎 A nice place to beach, drink and eat the whole day as the service is good, the drinks creative and the snacks fresh.
Further East there are other recommendable beach bars like Pelikanos, Sirokos, Chrysos Asterias and Kyma. A very short drive to the West we recommend Vanilla Beach Bar and Gyrogiali.

Family run taverna with a huge variety of Cretan and Mediterranian cuisine.
Pitachu / Episkopi
Easy and uncomplicated grill station. Great for quick traditional Gyros and Souvlaki.
Taverna Pelagia's Yard / Kavros
Homemade authentic cuisine. Very pleasant atmosphere with a beautiful garden
Bonatsa Greek and Cretan Cuisine / Kavros
Among other things nice fish restaurant. Huge outside seating area and very friendly service.
Dining, food & drinks: Rethymno
Rethymno is arguably the most picturesque old town in Crete. Besides the cosy narrow streets, large variety of shops and it's incredibly unique atmosphere it is famous for its rich, vibrant and unbelievably multifaceted coffee and dining scene. There are way too many great places to list but our favourites you can find below. They all have in common: Fantastic service, creative menus, extensive wine options, excellent quality.
Asikiko / Old Town
Our no. 1 go-to place due to the combination of service, quality and atmosphere. Top notch quality at comparably reasonable prices.
Raki Ba Raki / Old Town
Authentic Cretan cuisine with a touch of modern flair. Very good also for families and larger groups. Again: Top quality and comparably reasonable prices.
Hasika / Old Town
Bit pricier but no doubt no. 1 in creativity. Outstanding menu and cocktail bar. Insider cocktail tip if you like it a bit spicy: Trinidad Secret. Reservation advisable!
Achinos / Venetian Harbour
Also not cheap but arguably the best fish restaurant in Rethymno. Fantastic service and atmosphere, excellent quality. Often no chance without reservation.
